In summer, the sunny, warm days start to arrive – days for getting out and about and having fun!

Let’s talk about how to make these days safer so that you can enjoy the coming months without any worries.

Outdoors:

  • Try to walk and rest in the shade, rather than in direct sunlight.
  • Wear sunglasses with UV-A and UV-B protection – your eyes also need protection from ultraviolet rays.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your head, nose, eyelids and ears.
  • Whether at the beach or in the mountains, avoid sun exposure between 12 noon and 4 pm, and don’t rely on cloudy days – UV rays pass through clouds.
  • Apply sun cream all over your body, not forgetting your hands and feet, face and scalp, if you have thin hair. Your nose and ears – which are so easily overlooked – should also be protected.
  • Apply sun cream 30 minutes before sunbathing and reapply every 2 hours, or whenever you go for a swim or work up a sweat.
  • Opt for light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing that covers your arms and legs to protect you from the sun and insects.
  • Avoid brightly coloured clothing and perfumes, as these attract mosquitoes.
  • Do not walk barefoot or sit on the ground in areas with vegetation.
  • Use insect repellent on exposed areas.
  • Check your pets’ skin for fleas or ticks.
